Privacy & Data Protection

Privacy & Data Protection

Overcentric is built with privacy at its core. We believe you can gain powerful insights about your users while still respecting their privacy and data rights.

Our Privacy Principles

1. Collect Only What Matters

Overcentric is designed to be lightweight and privacy-focused. We only collect data that provides actionable insights:

  • Page views and navigation patterns
  • Click interactions and form submissions
  • Session recordings (with sensitive data masked)
  • JavaScript errors with context
  • Attribution data (referrer, UTM parameters)

We do not collect:

  • Passwords or sensitive form inputs (automatically masked)
  • Payment card details
  • Personal data beyond what you explicitly provide via identify()

2. Your Data Stays Yours

  • No third-party sharing — User data is never sold or shared with third parties
  • No cross-site tracking — We don’t track users across different websites
  • No advertising profiles — Data is used solely for your analytics and support

3. User Rights

Overcentric supports user data rights:

  • Data export — Users can request a full export of their data
  • Data deletion — Users can request complete removal of their data from Overcentric
  • Transparency — Clear documentation of what data is collected

Session Replay Privacy

Session replays are a powerful debugging tool, but they require careful handling of sensitive data.

Automatic Masking

Overcentric automatically masks:

  • Password fields
  • Credit card inputs
  • Fields marked as sensitive

Manual Masking

You can add the data-oc-mask attribute to any element to mask its content in replays:

<div data-oc-mask>
This content will be masked in session replays
</div>

Data Retention

Data retention policies help balance insights with privacy:

  • Session replays are retained based on your plan limits
  • Analytics data is aggregated over time
  • You can request data deletion at any time

Compliance Considerations

While Overcentric provides privacy-focused tooling, you are responsible for:

  • Obtaining appropriate consent from your users where required
  • Including Overcentric in your privacy policy
  • Responding to user data requests

Cookie-Free Tracking

Overcentric uses local storage and device fingerprinting rather than cookies for session tracking, which may simplify consent requirements in some jurisdictions.

Minimal Performance Impact

Privacy isn’t just about data—it’s also about respecting your users’ devices:

  • Lightweight library — Minimal JavaScript footprint
  • Async loading — Doesn’t block page rendering
  • Efficient data transmission — Batched event sending
  • No impact on Core Web Vitals — Designed to preserve your site’s performance
